Hand Eating Contest

Abby and I had a little friendly competition. She won.

Abby's boyfriend

This is Abby's boyfriend, Rowan Louis Dorsey. Obviously she's into younger men--more of a thrill I guess. Actually, I'm pretty sure she doesn't really know he exists yet, and I think it's safe to say the reverse is also true. But they'll be hanging out a lot in the next couple of years whether they know it or not!

Hanging out with Grandma

Abby loves Grandma Mettler. She's a wonderful pillow, wonderful entertainment, and keeps mom happy with her wonderful cooking.

Bipolar?

I think Abby is becoming bi-polar. I submit as evidence these two photographs, taken on the same day within an hour of each other.

Ann Arbor Bike Race

Alex had another bike race this weekend. Barb, Mel, Abby and I went to watch. It was a gorgeous day and as usual Alex did very well. On the last lap he got "caught out in the wind" (i.e. wasn't drafting behind anyone) and so ended up near the end of the field after leading for nearly the whole race. Abby spent most of the time asleep under a blanket, but I think she enjoyed it (notice her shirt)!

Learning to Read

The pediatrician told us we should be putting Abby on her tummy to get her to exercise her neck, but Abby doesn't really like to be on her tummy. I don't blame her--she lifts her head up and then when her neck gets tired her face slams into the ground. Anyway, the pediatrician recommended using the boppy to prop her up. I did that today, but Abby quickly bored of looking at the sheets covering the couch. So I opened a book up in front of her. She loved it!

P.S. Abby now weighs in at 13 pounds! And she's 23.5 inches long.

More Baby Comparison

I could only find this picture of me as a baby--obviously I'm a bit older than Abby is right now...

Thank God for Grandparents!

Two weekends ago Grandma Messinger came for a visit. It was so wonderful to have an extra pair of hands around the house not to mention good company during the day.

And Alex and I got to go out on a date! Needless to say, we've all been missing grandma since she left.

But that's the beauty of having two sets of grandparents...when one leaves the others can come! We're looking forward to another visit from Grandma and Grandpa Mettler next weekend. Pictures from their last visit:

Baby Comparison

Okay, here's some baby picture comparisons. Alex is 7 weeks in his and Abby is 8 weeks in hers. I made them black and white because Alex's was rather faded in color.

Carbon Copy

Many of you have been speculating about whether Abby looks more like me or Alex. I would definitely say she's a carbon copy of Alex. The only physical features I'm fairly certain she gets from me are her reproductive organs!

Deluge

Okay, so I got a little carried away this afternoon. But she's just so adorable! Once I start I can't stop! She has so many different expressions.

Time Warp

Our friends Brian and Heather had their little baby boy Rowan this weekend. We went to the hospital to see them and I was shocked at how little he was in comparison to Abby. I couldn't imagine that Abby had started out that small...but sure enough. I went through my pictures and at one time, she certainly was tiny!

Waterford Bike Race

Yesterday I got to watch Alex bike race for the first time. He's fast. He came in second place this time, and would have been first but there was a guy sandbagging (entered in a lower race category than he should have been). Actually, Alex may have been sandbagging too because he was way faster than everyone else. Dave and Jeff were entered in the same race. Dave almost came in third--it was a photo finish between him and two other guys (the two red jersey blokes in the fourth photo down)--but barely ended up in fifth place. Jeff came in 12th. They all looked fabulous, and I think you'll agree.

The starting lineup:

Alex out in the lead:

Alex and Dave (light blue jersey) taking it easy:

Alex comes toward the finish line. There's no one even close to catching him!

In the video, Jeff is the one with the dark leggings and the dark sleeves with the white stripes down the side.

The Smile

Finally, I caught it on film. Thanks to grandma for eliciting them!

I just love them.

Unhappy Baby

Sometimes Abby is unhappy despite our best efforts. Last night was one of those times.

Heaven on Earth

We hung a fish mobile above Abby's changing table. She loves it. I'm pretty sure her idea of heaven on earth is a naked bum and dangling muti-colored fish.
